About Hearth & Home

I’m Cate, a designer, wife, mom and homebody. After living in San Francisco for seven years, I recently returned to my southern roots and now live in Atlanta with my husband, Tyler, son, Luke, and dogs, Penny and Homer. By day, I’m an art director and create home décor collections for a large online retailer.

I’ve loved interior design since I was a child. This interest was sparked by my mother: an artist, antique dealer and decorator. I spent my childhood in her studio, watching her restore a piece of furniture to its former glory or decorate a client’s home. I was always fascinated by the way she could transform an object or room into something that was so much better that it was before. There was a bit of magic in that process that I wanted to understand.

Designing a home can be intimidating and mistakes are often costly. While researching inspiration for my own home, most of what I found online only focused on trends or what products to buy. What I was looking for was a process for creating timeless, functional design that reflected my personal style and was environmentally responsible. Eventually, I came up with my own system.

As I worked on my own home, friends and family started asking me for advice with theirs and I realized that the design “rules” I’d made for myself could help others plan and create their homes. This morphed into the idea for the blog that you’re now reading.

Hearth and Home is the place where I share my passion for beautiful spaces and everything that goes into creating them. I believe that everyone can have a beautiful, comfortable home that they love sharing with their friends and family.
